cfa's Community Outreach Efforts:

The Haven at First & Market

The Haven opened on January 9, 2009 from 3:00 to 5:00 and opened fully from 7:00 to 5:00 on January 18, 2009.  The Haven provided 52 hot breakfasts to the people we serve on opening day and has hit the ground running from day one.  The Haven seeks to provide day shelter for the needy and homeless communities in Charlottesville.  Along with providing meals, the Haven will have laundry and shower facilities, free mental and physical health resources, P.O. Boxes and storage facilities.  CFA will be a leader in the volunteer management for the Haven and there will be plenty of opportunities to serve our needy and homeless community!!  Volunteer information is available by clicking here.  You can download specific information about the Haven's resources, including Kay's Kitchen, by click on the invidivual links.  Information on the Haven can also be found on Facebook under the Thomas Jefferson Coalition for the Homeless.

For more information on how you can serve through cfa, contact Andy Gregory by sending him an e-mail or you can contact Tommy Everett here.

Hand to Hand

Each year, cfa provides a full-fledged, from-scratch Thanksgiving dinner for those in need in our community.  Volunteers are needed throughout the week leading up to the dinner, as well as on the day of the event.  This is always an exciting way to get involved in serving others and building a sense of unity within the Church body.

PACEM

PACEM works in tandem with the Day Haven to provide Cville's homeless community with a warm meal, a place to sleep, showers, and laundry facilities during the colder months.  In 2009, CFA partnered with host locations First United Methodist Church in March and Portico Church in December to helping to prepare meals, entertainment, and hang out with the men staying with PACEM for the evening.

February 13 - 19, 2010, cfa will be an overflow host site for PACEM for about 10 men.  In the past, cfa has only served as a partner with the host church, but this time cfa will actually house the men. Volunteers are needed for evening and morning shifts.  If God is daring you to move in this area of ministry, please contact Andy Gregory by sending him an e-mail.

The Giving Tree

Each year, cfa members participate in providing and wrapping gifts needed by families and local ministries and agencies.  The Giving Tree will be available starting in November.

Be the Church

In October 2009, cfa's sermon series focused on “Don't Go To Church, BE THE CHURCH!” The month long focus culminated with the last Sunday when we closed “Church” in our facility, but hit the streets to “Be The Church” in Charlottesville.

The challenge continues to, “Be the Church” in Charlottesville on a daily basis. Think about what you can do to make a difference.  cfa's next Be the Church Sunday will be on Sunday, April 25th.  Stay tuned for more details.

If you'd like more information about any and all of these opportunities to serve in our community, please contact Chris Becker.
