Lead Pastor, Pete Hartwig
Pete came on as the lead pastor of cfa in 1997 after spending 10 years as a university pastor in New Jersey. Pete feels a unique calling to the University context, so Charlottesville is the perfect place for him and his family. He provides oversight and vision for the church staff and the many cfa ministry leaders. His pastoral passion is to see that God's Word is clearly understood through relevant and engaging teaching and that everyone who calls cfa their home walks in the fullness of God's will for every area of life. Pete loves the outdoors, local college sports, and is working towards a doctorate in Leadership. Pete married his wife Fran in 1990 and they have 3 kids: Peter (17), Allie (13), and Jackie (12). Church Administrator & Women's Ministry Director, Denise Voltz
Denise grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and migrated to the warmer climate of Virginia in 1993. She has an extensive background in administration with experiences that stretch from Risk Management with a Fortune 500 company, estate management and launching a small mental health services company with her Husband Bill in 2007. Denise and Bill became members of cfa in 2006 after falling in love with the worship and cfa's community of people. Youth Pastor, Scott George
Scott is originally from Niagara Falls, NY. He is a graduate of Valley Forge Christian College with a BA in Pastoral Ministries. Upon graduation Scott went right to work as a youth pastor in Ithaca, NY. After serving there for two years he moved to Naples, FL where he took on another youth ministry role for the next four years. He came on here at CFA on July, 7th 2011. He and his wife, Chrisanne, are both burdened with a desire to see teenagers come to know Jesus Christ as it has been their main focus of ministry for the past ten years. They are deeply committed to seeing this generation love God, their church, their families, and take the message of Jesus Christ to their schools. Operations Pastor & Children's Ministry Director, Chris Becker
Chris grew up in Pittsburgh, PA where he and his family attended Monroeville Assembly of God. Chris graduated from Grove City College in 1996 with a BS in Financial Management. After graduating Chris got married to his beautiful and talented wife Darcy and they moved to Charlottesville. Chris worked for SNL Financial on the Downtown Mall in the Banking Sector for nearly 8 years, where he finished as the Bank & Thrift Accounting Manager.
Chris and Darcy began attending cfa in 2001. Chris was elected to be a member of the cfa board in 2002. Following the Lord's leading to go into full time ministry, he came on staff at cfa in December, 2004 to become cfa's Operations Pastor. As the Operations Pastor, Chris focuses on the systems and processes within cfa. Chris oversees the maintenance of the facility, organizing upcoming events, and deals with many other areas of church life within cfa. He enjoys getting people plugged in and supported and is also currently serving as our Children's Ministry Director. Chris and Darcy have two daughters, Aleya (10) and Teylan (6). Worship Arts Pastor, Calie Garrett
Calie is a graduate of the University of Virginia with a double major in Music and Religious Studies. After graduation, Calie married Daniel, her amazing husband. She grew up in Virginia Beach, VA and lived there until she attended U.Va. and made Charlottesville her home. Before cfa brought Calie on as the worship pastor in 2006, she attended cfa and played on the cfa worship team for about 2 years. Calie also led worship for Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship at U.Va. during undergrad. Along with leading cfa's worship team, Calie works closely with Pastor Pete to incorporate creative elements into the Sunday morning services to make them more interactive and profound for each person who attends. She also manages the website and leads Cariss, cfa's Young Adult Ministry, with an amazing group of young people. Calie and Daniel have two daughters, Hannah (3) and Leona (1). Life Groups Coordinator, Sally Herman
Sally's involvement with Chi Alpha Campus Ministries of the Assemblies of God spands over 30 years. After moving to the DC area with her husband, Harvey 12 years ago, Sally pioneered a ministry to medical and research students at Georgetown University Medical School. Sally also served as the coordinator of the DC Metro Chi Alpha team. In 2008 they moved to Charlottesville. In March of 2011, Sally became the Life Groups Coordinator. University ministry provides excellent experience in small group ministry.
Sally married Harvey in 1974. They have two children, Sarah & Matt, son-in-law Rob Malcolm and daughter-in-law Tracy. They have 3 grandchildren, Nadya, Cameron and Eli.
